Lara Hazelett Shelton has loved art and design since a very early age. Her summers in Northern Michigan and Sea Island, Georgia were always spent by the water drawing and painting. For years, the graphics were stored in sketchbooks until just the right moment to share them with the world.

In 2005, Lara became a mother. As she joined the ranks of the MOB (Mother of Boys), she realized fashionably hip, kid-friendly tableware was really tough to find. She finally knew where her art was meant to be - on custom melamine plates. In an effort to merge her worlds of the plastic pirate plates and her grandmother’s fine china, La Plates was born!

Since her days as “the plate lady”, Lara has continued to grow La Plates into the one stop online shop for personalized entertaining. Whether you’re planning an outdoor BBQ, an elegant bridal luncheon or a holiday party for the family, we hope our products bring happiness to the celebration!
